{Gremlins 3} Chris Columbus is working on the script, which will be “twisted and dark”

According to a short piece over at Slashfilm, Chris Columbus has been hard at work on a new script for Gremlins 3 that will be “twisted and dark as anything” and will likely touch on the concept of eliminating gizmo to eliminate the Gremlin threat.

Some sites have taken that to mean that Gizmo might be murdered in the film, but that is nowhere to be seen in Columbus’ brief statements.

To me it sounds more like a general musing and his personal feeling that if there is a creature capable of spawning unholy monsters that destroy everything in sight, and can easily multiply with malevolence, yeah…you might want to keep that thing under control one way or the other.

Either way, the important thing is this is further confirmation that Gremlins 3 is in some state of development and we will eventually see a new film someday!

Check out Slashfilm for the full article and more quotes by Chris Columbus on the film!

{Gremlins 3 News} ‘Gremlins’ Reboot Will Be ‘A Completely Different Direction’

Thanks to a tip from Andre Meadows (of Black Nerd Comedy fame, check him out!)gremlin3q.gif it looks like the latest tidbit of news on the “New Gremlins Film” front comes from MTV News of all places.

The full article is here over at has Gremlins screenwriter Chris Columbus stating:

“Oh, god, a completely different direction,” Columbus continued. “It’s not a remake of the first movie at all. Because the first movie’s very dear to my heart.”

That means not only will we get the same mogwai mischief, it also means that even 25 years later, you don’t want to feed them after midnight.

“It’s the same universe, the same rules, same Gremlins, but not the same,” Columbus added. “There’s elements of it. What I’ve learned — I haven’t even seen ’Star Wars’ — but what I’ve learned in the trailer is, people want to stay connected to what they fell in love with. So when I saw Harrison Ford and Chewie, I was like… I had tears in my eyes, and I think everyone collectively across the world geeked out at that moment.”

What does this mean?

Honestly, not a whole lot yet again. We know Warner Bros wants to make a new film, but a lot of stars have to align to get any movie made, let alone one of the most unique film franchises of the 80’s and 90’s . So we know there is some kind of progress, but how much? Is this just Chris trying to hype up the idea of a new film? His “Force Awakens” analogy is curious and somewhat hopeful but at the same time we don’t want to have fan service just for the sake of fan service. What if that was the only scene Chewie and Han were in in the new trilogy? Just a 5 second cameo, to make the fanboys happy. Obviously this isn’t the case, but sadly Zach and Phoebe don’t have the same effect the general populace of gasping in nerd-tastic excitement.

Chris Columbus, Joe Dante and Stephen Spielberg truly love the Gremlins franchise, this is obvious since there hasn’t been a million direct-to-video sequels starring once-relevant stars and barely having the creatures at all until the final scenes. They haven’t just sold the rights off unconditionally for a few bucks like many would have with such a difficult franchise as Gremlins. Let’s hope they keep the love for the franchise a bit longer while the Hollywood machine does its thing.

We have waited 25 years from the last Gremlins film, we can wait a few more until the next one.

Warner Bros Hires Goosebumps film writer to script Gremlins Remake/Reboot

Hey folks!

Not a whole lot to see here, but it looks like WB is trying to get things rolling with a new writer for the long-delayed Gremlins film that really, we know pretty much nothing about.

As usual, Spielberg has veto power on these things so it is possible that he simply will say “no” after reading a finished draft and we will be back to square one. Then again, it could be fantastic. We need a new generation of Gremlins Fans to get into the series and something less scary than Gremlins but more intense than Gremlins 2 could be appropriate. After watching Joe Dante’s “The Hole” I know that family-friendly horror/adventure films can still be done, but that genre is far from the moneymaker it was 30 years ago….

I have reached out to Warner Bros for comment on the story but have not heard back yet. I will be sure to update this if anything comes up.

Gremlins Reboot/Remake “moving quickly”? LEAVE MY CHILDHOOD ALONE!!!

Alright alright……
I get it from your panicked texts and emails you want to know more about the bit on the Goonies remake that namedropped Gremlins on Ain’t It Cool News.

Here’s the Quote (full story here)

One film from that period that I still adore, however, is GREMLINS, and I’m told a remake of Joe Dante’s film is also moving quickly at WB. Good times.

So there you have it, Jeremy is told that a Gremlins remake is “moving quickly at WB.”  This is about as unverifiable as it gets folks.
So yet again we will chalk this up to Rumors and Speculation until more details from some people actually involved in the project come out and say something of any substance beyond “Gremlins is a movie and is someday being remade.”

Now time to rant!
As we all grow older and theoretically wiser, we see some horrid entertainment choices being made by the film industry at worst, and other moves that are questionable at best. Unnecessary sequels, spin-offs, and remakes are at the top of the list of the passionate moviegoers gripe list.
One common cry heard when a 30 year old movie is rumored or announced to be redone is “LEAVE MY CHILDHOOD ALONE!” as if the creation of a new version (or “batch”) of their childhood favorite film will somehow demolish all the awesomeness that the original brought to the table.
But it doesn’t.

We can always revisit our favorite movies and TV shows on a million different forms of media which are all completely unaffected by anything that happens.

What I am saying is no one can ruin your childhood memories but you.

It is quite simple; if you don’t like a product that comes out, say a new Gremlins film, just ignore it. Turn it off and watch the original masterpiece from 1984. It will always be there.

I get that we all want a new film to be as awesome as the first movie but we have to accept that anything to come out now probably won’t be as groundbreaking, but why don’t we let a remake stand on its own, and see what happens?

Maybe it is easier to complain and wag our fingers and be able to say “SEE! I SAID IT WOULD SUCK.” rather than give something new a chance.

{Gremlins 3} A bit of Non-News on Joe Dante’s newest project.

We all would love to see Joe Dante helm a new Gremlins film, but it looks like we will have to wait a little longer to see anything with his name attached in a major capacity.
Ain’t It Cool news reports that Joe Dante is working on a new film titled “Burying The Ex”  which he is using FundAnything, a crowdsourcing service to complete. This pretty much cements his non-involvement in a Gremlins 3 or Reboot in the near future. If he were to join the project in any hands-on manner it would likely not begin until at least 2015 at the earliest, putting any Dante-helmed Gremlins feature out of the 30 year anniversary window.

Check out Joe Dante’s video on his new project here:

However, this announcement has made people on the internet a bit more vocal in asking the question on everyone’s mind which is obviously: Where is Gremlins 3? Even the press release for Burying The Ex lists Gremlins as one of his crowning achievements over more recent projects like The Hole (Which was wholly creepy and sadly missed by most people, a return to the gremlins style of family horror) so obviously whomever is writing his PR pieces knows Gremlins has some pull these days.

Either way check out his FundAnything page and let us know if you back it and if you manage to get that Dinner with Dante, get him to spill the beans on Gremlins for us Gremlin fanatics.

Comment below, share what you think of his newest project and the use of Gremlins to attract attention!
